The Writer

Bryana 2-18-44.jpg

I'm Bryana Braxton, the writer behind By Lady Bry.  I've loved reading and writing stories since childhood. Over time, I learned to use my gift to write for God and to share His truth. I'm passionate about living a healthy lifestyle physically, mentally, and spiritually. Through this blog, I want to help you do the same. On By Lady Bry, I share advice and encouragement on living a life for God and pursuing physical health and mental wellness.

By day, I'm a student at American University in Washington, DC pursuing a degree in Public Relations & Strategic Communications. The Life section of this blog shares much of my college experience and advice on networking and the job search. (which I'm doing right now as we speak!)

Most importantly, I'm a follower of Jesus. In the Faith section of my blog, I share many testimonies of how my relationship and faith in God helped me through college. I see this blog as a platform for not my voice, but that of the Holy Spirit. I live by the scripture II Timothy 1:6-7 (see below).

Whether you're a health enthusiast, follower of Christ or college student, I hope something you read here encourages you today.

“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
— II Timothy 1:6-7

Her Story

If you stripped me of every title--student, sister, friend, daughter of Christ--at my core I am a writer.

I believe in the power of storytelling to inspire people to act, mobilize a community, and raise awareness of an issue. I love sharing my story, other people's stories and creating my own in fiction. I love how words can have such an incredible impact and touch people at their heart's center.

I've loved writing since childhood. When I was a little girl, I used to write my dreams as short stories. When I was eleven years old, I wrote a novel about bullying. As long as I can remember I've aspired to be a published author. But in high school, that book turned into something dark. Sinful. Not something I would want to publish and share. At the end of my junior year of high school, I stopped writing the book and entered a two-year season of writer's block.

Halfway through my sophomore year of college, God brought me out of that writer's block by teaching me how to write for Him through this blog! I loved it. I loved being able to write again. Except this time when I wrote the Holy Spirit spoke from my pen. I had a fire in my hands and heart to tell the world of what God is doing in my life and the world around me in Washington, DC. I remember I would have quiet time with God writing into the wee hours of the night; the Holy Spirit would speak to me so clearly, and I could not wait to get it up on my blog. I was on fire for Jesus.

I'm not speaking nostalgically like that was the good old days. It's still the good old days. I'm still a writer. The Holy Spirit is still speaking. And no one can take Him away from me now. That's why I'm relaunching this blog By Lady Bry. Because God has something to say.
